Bowie State University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 21, 2023, to unveil a new, NBA-quality basketball court made possible by a $500,000 gift from professional basketball player Kevin Durant and the Durant Family Foundation. Wanda Durant, Kevin Durant’s mother and the president of the foundation, attended the ceremony in the same facility where Kevin Durant played in childhood tournaments.

BSU receives no state funding for its athletic programs, relying instead on private donors to fund student-athletes. The Durant Family Foundation gift was made to BSU BOLD: The Campaign for Excellence, a historic fundraising campaign that has met its $50 million goal two and a half years early in July 2023. MPK&D has actively counseled Bowie State University and partnered to make its historic campaign a success since 2019.
