MPK&D client Bowie State University (BSU) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 27, 2024, to celebrate the opening of the new Martin Luther King Jr. Center, a nearly $167 million facility that will be home to the communications and humanities departments as well as the military science program.
The approximately 192,000-square-foot facility includes a 1,500-seat auditorium, TV and radio station studios, do-it-yourself recording chambers, a screening room and an ROTC plaza. The main entrance displays abstract impressions of vocal sound waves from Dr. King’s 1964 Nobel Peace Prize speech.
The center has personal meaning for Bowie State University and its students. It features a two-story likeness of late BSU student 1st Lt. Richard Collins III who was commissioned into the Army shortly before he was killed on the University of Maryland campus in 2017. The image serves as a memorial and celebration of his life.
MPK&D is honored to partner with BSU and congratulates them on this latest accomplishment.
